Requirements

To run IDSTower, you will need a Linux host/VM/Docker Container, with the following packages/services installed:

  • MariaDB 10.6+

  • ansible-core 2.16

  • Python 3.10 - 3.12 on IDSTower host

  • Python 2.7 or Python 3.6 - 3.12 on Suricata hosts

  • 4GB of RAM Memory (Recommended)

The IDSTower server runs on the Linux distributions the installation script supports (run it with -l to list them; most have a guide in the installation guides) or as the Docker image. Windows and macOS are not supported as the IDSTower server’s operating system.

CPU architectures

  • IDSTower server: x86_64 (64-bit Intel/AMD) and arm64/aarch64 (64-bit Arm), including Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit). The Arm installation is tested on emulated 64-bit Arm containers; validation on real Arm hardware, Raspberry Pi included, is still pending. The installation script stops before installing anything on any other architecture, 32-bit systems included.

  • Suricata target hosts: x86_64 and arm64/aarch64. Deploying to Arm hosts has not been validated end to end yet: it is exercised on emulated 64-bit Arm containers, which cannot run Suricata’s traffic capture. Validation on real Arm hardware, Raspberry Pi included, is still pending.
